We are a group of East Asian volunteers with a strong interest in tackling the rising volumes of hate crime directed at East and South East Asian citizens in the UK, which has risen three-fold since the coronavirus outbreak.

We believe that by providing simple, accessible information to front-line East and South East Asian community workers, we can best increase reporting and awareness of hate crime and ensure support is available for those in need.

Our Team

Andrew

Andrew is a British-born Chinese who grew up in Shanghai, and is currently based in London working in consulting.

In his spare time, Andrew enjoys bouldering, gaming and watching old movies with Sydney, interspersed with the odd bit of lighting design. At university, he produced the first-ever English production of Lao She's 'Teahouse', and he is excited about seeing more East and South East Asian representation in media and the workplace.

Billy

Billy (nicknamed Big B) is from Henan, China and he came to UK six years ago to complete his university degree. He is currently a data scientist working for Education First on AI for marketing problems. He is passionate about solving problems in the intersection of AI and Social Good and more broadly Tech for Good.

In his spare time, Billy likes to play basketball and recently he fell in love with chess so he spends at least a good hour everyday playing chess online or watching chess-related videos.

Erica

Erica grew up in East London and is currently completing a Masters in Human Rights Law (she is desperately looking for a job).

Erica always has a crochet project in her hands (if you haven't heard of it, it's basically knitting's little sister). She is also an avid foodie and runs a "food blog" in the hopes of getting free food (it's just an Instagram page). She lifts and she hates cardio.

Sydney

Sydney was born in Taiwan and she grew up in Shanghai. She is currently based in London pursuing a career in law.

In her spare time, she enjoys bouldering, watching Andrew game and watching old movies with Andrew. She loves floral arrangements and secretly, desperately wants to open her own flower shop one day. Sydney is bad at poker but she has a lot of luck. Sydney is very good at keeping her plants alive.

Vincent

Vincent is an economist-turned-data-scientist working in London. He grew up in Beijing, and he always wishes he could spend more time back in China.

Vincent is passionate about bouldering and enjoys making his friends go bouldering with him (and he has indeed succeeded). Vincent goes hiking when he needs to find himself and he has found himself lost many times. Vincent has a lot of entrepreneurial ideas that his friends think are crazy.
